Youth Prevention Leadership Corp
The DC Youth Prevention Leadership Corps (YPLC) has been developed based on the National Youth Leadership Initiative Model created by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA). It is designed as a program of excellence to develop youth in the District of Columbia for effective leadership in community problem-solving and change. The focus is on youth leadership development and involvement in the District of Columbia Strategic Prevention Framework to influence positive community change.
The Wards 3 & 4 DC Prevention Center YPLC began in October of 2012 and continues to grow. Through active participation at weekly meetings, youth can receive training in drug education and substance abuse prevention, peer leadership training, training in community problem-solving & change, training in youth leadership development, community service hours, and more.
Membership requirements
- Youth, grades 9th-12th, living in or attending school in Ward 3 or Ward 4
- Participation and attendance at all YPLC & select community events
- Interest and commitment to planned community change through community problem-solving
- Positive influence and ability to connect with youth & peers
- Leadership potential and interest in leadership development
